[Personal] So yeah, I set my kitchen on fire last week (21/02/14)

Basically I was a numpty and had an idea to use the pan nan gave me that I'd not used before and I'd seen her cook with lidded pans before, hell I'd done the same back when I loved with them but under estimated the power of my hob.

I was meant to have my friend round that evening but because of a tornado warning at the airport he couldn't come down til the Saturday instead so I didn't want to use the chicken breasts I'd defrosted because I was low on food etc and he was staying a week before I'd get paid.

I was going to go round my parents for the evening and pick up some Chinese but decided that 1. My dad would insist of dropping me back home which I wouldn't want him to do late at night, and 2. I may as well use money for Chinese on food shopping instead.

So I called my nan and said forget about it, she then suggested I fried potato and added onion to it so I went along with this idea and peeled, chopped and boiled the potatoes. I didn't even know why I decided to shallow fry, because I needed to only use a little oil to fry the potato due to the size and the onions involved - I'd made this meal in the past.

In a matter of twenty minutes I had thick white smoke setting my fire alarm off and opened my windows and balcony to let it go, the heat inside the pain with the lid on had caused it.

Being too short and unsure how to turn the fire alarm off, I phoned nan if she or dad knew how I could turn it off, whilst doing so I lifted the lid of the pan (had turned the hob off for both the boiled potatoes and the shallow oil in the pan with the lid on, keep in mind it was the third time the oil would be used for the same purpose.)

Obviously this then cause a fire to almost hit the roof instantly and in my already panicked state in hoping to not disturb people with the fire alarm, I panicked even more and started screaming on the phone to nan.

Nan wasn't sure what I was saying and I knew to get a wet towel, problem though is that my brain was working in super goldfish mode and took my towel to the sink but instead of wetting it, I put water in my washing bowl but only a little and poured it over the fire.

This resulted in an explosion that went just over my head and turned my small chandelier into charcoal and drop instantly to the floor within seconds, if I had been any taller I would've melted my face in the process.

I screamed for dad to arrive whilst I grabbed the guinea pigs after taking Eevee out to the balcony in her cage and put the guinea pigs in my ferret cage and left them both outside, nan phoned the fire-fighters for me but I had already told her that the fire had jumped out of the pan and gone out after I threw the water on it, some of the fire jumped out and onto the hob itself but went out a few seconds afterwards.

Fire-fighters turned up in two trucks and expected much worse than my nan reported as she thought I was on fire as well, dad had arrived before them and the only thing he could do was open my kitchen window for me, as I was too weak to operate the button to widen the gap.

Fire-fighters arrived and used a stinking smoke machine to get rid of the thick putrid black smoke from the flat and to investigate the destroyed extractor fan in the kitchen and tell me I'll be receiving a visit in a week to talk about fire safety etc and whether I needed oxygen or an ambulance which I politely declined, they could not believe how I was alive, let alone unharmed but I didn't believe them or my dad.

They left and no animals or humans were harmed, some minor burns on my hands and neck but they're cleared up now.
