Lyra/RPG

Key: lighter green highlight is the second edit, bright green is the third edit.

Lyra is a character I played with in my mind for a few hours before experiencing my first Numenera game and first role playing game experience after being against the idea of people sitting around a table pretending to be other people in a fantasy world and creating characters that I didn't understand the method of.

I didn't even understand the overall appeal other than to create a persona that made you feel better about yourself because you needed an escape from reality or you just had mental issues and didn't see that other people perceived it as uncool and extremely childish for adults to play.

I think that outlook towards DnD and ignorance towards role playing games came from my family as they would always tell me I'd grow out of video games then computer games and anime etc and yet I haven't and in the last few years it has created the social life I've wanted and now I feel I'm beginning to take a large step into an unknown type of gaming for myself.

Back to the character at hand here though; Lyra is a Mechanical Jack that can Talk  to Machines, at the time I was trying to create a reason for her to make brief appearances in the Numenera games my friends have been playing because I don't live in their area and it costs me too much to visit twice a week to participate for four hours a time, so I decided I'd give her an experiment that went wrong.

This 'experiment' was to see if Lyra could create more potential in herself by creating a device she injected into her arm as a microscopic nano bug, it was programmed to attach to her heart and inject small amounts of adrenaline into her heart to increase her capacity and limitations.

Problem is, she hadn't thought enough into the programming of this bug and after a week it decided to increase the quantity of adrenaline in her, she had worked out how to make the bug create the adrenaline and in her confidence she didn't create a way for it to be removed without serious risk to her life.

This has left her in a twitchy, paranoid and panicky state which when startled will set her off in a manic frenzy of fast paced movement, talking and thinking, every time the unpredictable bug increases the quantity she is left in a more severe state and increasingly painful headache for an unpredictable amount of time, there's no pattern she can spot in triggering this either, only that it just happens.

She knows her life has been shortened and behaves as if every second counts; she has to keep thinking, has to be on the move and has to do things in order to feel productive and has developed a habit of tinkering with Numenera and devices she can get her hands on.

Lyra has a chair she's very fond of too, it's as if it was a pet to her in the possessiveness she has over it and care for it as it has always proven handy to her, why? because she can take it out of extra dimensional space, she's not sure how she managed it but the chair seemed like a good thing to keep in it from home before she went to travel and find someone who may be able to help her with her life threatening mistake.

The dimension raises questions but Lyra isn't interested and decides she'll investigate it when she knows how long she has left, after some experimenting she discovers she can travel with her chair and dimension but currently she can't go far, it's an unpredictable mode of transportation.

Lyra is only seventeen but her mother set off on her own adventure when Lyra was thirteen, believing she could take care of herself from that age and she had at least raised her to an age to look after herself and wanted to go out in the world and have an adventure of her own in search of Lyra's father who had been taken captive when looking for numenera to make life more comfortable for his family when Lyra was only five.

Lyra developed her curiosity from her mother and from her father she developed a need to improve things if she could see they weren't working efficiently if she could see a fault in it or a way to improve it, she had the potential to create what she wanted but she always lacked the method to create it, thus making almost everything she tinkered with either backfire or become something completely different to what she expected and hoped for, sometimes this actually turned out to be better and sometimes it worked as she expected but very rarely.

Lyra's mother was a blacksmith and her father was an engineer, they made a steady income that made them comfortable but as mentioned previously; Lyra's father always wanted to make the family more comfortable and improve their lifestyle which inevitably got him captured as there was no body when tracing his steps when realising he had been gone longer than he should've been.

* Outside Note: Not sure if I can add a wedding band that strengthens in colour the closer the rings are and the further away they are then results in the bands not having any colour at all after 50 miles. Lyra's mother is called Mogra and her father is called Duan.

Lyra has been living the last five years in the family home which was built in a tree with several devices (* Outside Note: Not sure if I can create living conditions) and contraptions to keep the home running smoothly, some are her own but most were made by her father with the help from her mother too after Duan was captured.

At first it was difficult for Lyra to come to terms with what she accepted was necessary for her mother to do and Lyra struggled to the point of living in a state of depression; the village offered her help of which she refused until she realised she needed to be stronger for her parents sake and she could help find her father and now her mother as well once she was strong enough to leave home in search for her parents and so she asked for the village to help her learn how to survive.

At seventeen she started to feel impatient as she became eager to go out and find her parents and thus felt it was a good idea to speed her progress with her adrenaline nano bug; she had barely any clue what she was doing, only that the lads in the village had mentioned it made them feel like they could do anything and this sounded useful to Lyra so she quickly thought up how to make it work and after a week she implanted the nano bug and agreed that she felt she could do anything and worked much quicker.

After a week she developed problems with the bug; it was injecting more than she planned and she realised she had not thought about taking precautionary steps if the device backfired, neither did she know that too much adrenaline could kill her, she asked for advice from the local doctor and to know more about what she could expect if the bug increased more adrenaline and realised she needed to find someone, if anyone who could remove or fix her problem, as well as find her parents.

She hadn't quite planned or expected to be leaving home as early as seventeen, most likely eighteen or even twenty to make sure she was definitely ready to face the world but being the optimist she decided she had to be ready now because the sooner she could find her parents the better, even if she doesn't find a way to cure her recently developed problem.

She appears in a town called [town] after giving her dimensional chair a test and discovers that it's evidently not a town that could help her after a day of asking villagers questions, she boards a boat with only the captain, a tall, strange intimidating boy and herself until a group of suspicious people board at the last minute with guards behind them, she had heard of a group of people causing trouble in the village but also saving them recently and she wasn't an idiot to work out that these people were the same ones and this is where her journey starts.

Lyra stands up at 4"10, she sports a shaved head except for her fringe which reaches past her C cup breasts and styled to the right of her face with one braid on the left with a tooth at the bottom of the braid. Her hair is a light green verging on blonde. She has lilac eyes and pale white skin as a result of her newly created condition.

Her clothes were handed to her by the family of her closest friend as a farewell and good luck gift to make sure she was ready for braving the outside world, the outfit consists of thick brown leather boots reaching below her knees, thin leggings dyed black, a belt that hangs on her hips with many pouches around the length of the belt for extra and convenient storage space but made of a thin leather material, and a leather jacket of medium thickness and forearm length with a high collar and zips up and a white vest underneath. She also wears leather fingerless gloves and practical goggles which she wears on her head.
