We always want the past because we know what we had

So I knew today (technically yesterday now) was going to be a hard day, it was 3 years since my great grandad passed away. I thought it would be okay to watch the movie 'Jack' starring Robin Williams, but this was a bad idea after all, I had forgotten what had happened in it apart from bits, and knowing how he died and his struggles less than twenty years later made it more difficult than I expected it to be.

I've always looked at the past as being a 'better place' and the future becoming more dark, morbid and destructive. I'm hoping if I go travelling outside the UK that I will be able to learn the better things about the world, the world that is evidently not all that magical and fake, but must actually be real because we are seeing the real thing.

I love things from before I was born, seeing it in movies and tv series and the like. The 'cheesy' 90's films that make things look beautiful and a safe sort of dark feel about it all.

What I love is how naive a lot of things were back in the 90's and before then. How we saw the future and how we started to explore the 'future' we were becoming, the drastic change from the 40's onwards, after world war II basically. It looks like a time where things were more peaceful; we took a break and of course there was bad things still, but it was more settled down and contained. People could create a future and everything was a lot more innocent and less depressing.

Robin Williams represents everything I think about 'back then' and how much talent he had, how he was one in a few billion. I watch him in this show and even now I just don't know how anyone can have so much talent and be so intelligent and caring, I think it has something to do with that era, obviously there was always problems back then.. but they were things that are a lot more trivial to us now. He was 27 back then or nearly, I am currently 27 now. Watch this clip from 34 minutes into the show if you don't have time, and witness one of his first amazing quotes. You don't see that talent now, it's more 'glamorous' and there's billions more people now than back then, it's getting too crowded and we're all just living our lives at the end of the day. So sad.
